The Shift

From Problem Solver to Financial Coach.

Many helping professionals walk into financial conversations carrying the pressure to find the answer. FCFP teaches a different way to help — when to educate, when to offer resources, when to guide, and when to coach, so clients stay active partners in their own progress.

The Pressure

“How do I fix this?”

Jumping to advice. Carrying the plan. Working harder than the client. Feeling responsible for having every answer.

The Coaching Shift

“How can I help this person think this through?”

Listening with curiosity. Asking better questions. Exploring motivation and barriers. Helping clients identify their choices and own their next step.

“I don’t have to have all of the answers to still be a productive financial coach.”

The Training Experience

This Is Not Four Days of Sitting and Listening.

FCFP is built as an active learning experience. Participants discuss, practice, coach, reflect, work through realistic financial situations, use the tools, and get feedback — applying what they learn while they’re still in the room.

01

Learn It

Understand the coaching principles, financial concepts, and behavior-change foundations.

02

See It

Watch coaching approaches and tools come alive through demonstrations and examples.

03

Try It

Use practical tools and questions instead of only hearing about them.

04

Discuss It

Exchange perspectives with practitioners who understand the work and the people you serve.

05

Practice It

Rotate through coach, client, and observer roles and receive feedback on the experience.

06

Apply It

Connect the training directly to real client situations and existing agency services.

“It is 4 days but not 4 dragging days. I learned a lot and it was very hands-on and practical.”

Practical Tools

Tools That Make Better Conversations Easier.

Participants don’t leave with theory alone. They leave with tools they can bring into their very next client conversation — including several of the most highly rated elements in the recent post-training survey.

01

Financial Wheel

Open a visual conversation about every area of a client’s financial life — without reducing the person to one immediate problem.

02

Debt Reduction Wheel

Explore debt, capacity, priorities, and possibilities in a structured way that keeps the client in ownership.

03

Client Persona

See beyond demographics to the client’s goals, motivation, strengths, pain points, barriers, support, timing, and best coaching approach.

04

Beliefs Matrix

Help clients see how beliefs connect to behaviors and results — and discover more empowering possibilities.

05

Coaching Conversation Model

A repeatable structure that moves from clarity and motivation through exploration, action, accountability, and completion.

06

Coaching Practice + Feedback

Practice in real time, see what works, experience the client’s perspective, and build confidence through repetition.

Client-Centered by Design

Put the Client in the Driver’s Seat.

Your staff bring knowledge. Your clients bring their lives, values, experiences, motivations, priorities, and goals. FCFP teaches practitioners how to bring those together — without taking over the conversation.

“What the coach thinks cannot override what the client values and chooses to focus on.”

What Your Staff Leave With

A Better Way to Have Financial Conversations.

The goal isn’t to turn every practitioner into the person with every answer. It’s to help them become more intentional, skillful, and client-centered in the moments that matter most.

Listen Differently

Hear beyond the presenting problem to strengths, beliefs, values, motivation, resources, and themes.

Ask Better Questions

Use curiosity and powerful questions to create discovery instead of dependence.

Understand Behavior

Recognize how stress, readiness for change, beliefs, context, and motivation shape financial behavior.

Recognize Coaching Moments

Spot the opportunities inside everyday client interactions where a little exploration creates real clarity.

Choose the Right Tool

Use practical frameworks for conversations about goals, debt, credit, income, savings, and more.

Support Client-Owned Action

Help clients set meaningful goals, choose next steps, and build accountability — without the coach taking over.

Common Questions

Let’s Clear Up the Details.

Is this a traditional financial education training?

No. FCFP integrates financial knowledge with client-centered coaching. Participants learn how to help clients think, explore, choose, plan, and act — rather than relying only on information transfer or advice.

What is the training experience like?

FCFP is an intensive, experiential four-day training. Participants engage in facilitated instruction, discussions, case studies, tools, reflection, demonstrations, coaching practice, peer interaction, and feedback.

Do participants actually practice financial coaching?

Yes. Practice is built into the experience. Participants work in pairs and small groups and rotate through the roles of coach, client, and observer so they experience the skills from multiple perspectives.

What will our staff leave with?

Practical coaching frameworks, financial coaching tools, behavior-change concepts, stronger questioning and listening skills, and a more client-centered approach they can begin using right away.
